Methodology

Source. The split calendar in Signal8's dataset for US-traded securities, including OTC-quoted ones. Figures describe that dataset.

What counts. A reverse split that reduces the share count by at least 1.5 to 1, by its effective date. ETFs, leveraged and inverse exchange-traded products, funds, trusts, warrants and units identified in our reference data are excluded, because leveraged products reverse-split routinely as a mechanical result of their design. A small number of securities our reference data does not classify may remain. Vendor rows we have found to be wrong are removed.

Year. The year the split took effect. The current year is year to date.

Exchange. The primary exchange in our reference data. Nasdaq shares are calculated over splits by securities with a recorded US exchange; splits by OTC-quoted securities and others with no recorded exchange are left out of that share.

Repeat splits. A split counts as a repeat when the same ticker symbol had another qualifying reverse split in the previous 2 years. A company that changed its ticker between splits is not matched, so this figure is a lower bound.

Not included. Price performance after a split is not reported, because a fair measure has to include companies that were delisted afterwards. Extreme ratios are not reported as a headline figure because the largest ones belong to inactive OTC shells.
