Greif Reports Fourth Quarter and Fiscal 2026 Results
Greif reported fiscal 2026 results with FY net sales of $4.38 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $625.7 million, up 11.7%, while adjusted EPS rose 73.3% to $4.04.
Q4 was messier on a GAAP basis: a $6.5 million net loss ($0.11 per diluted Class A share) driven by $36.5 million of impairments tied to the Sweetwater paperboard mill closure, though adjusted EPS improved to $0.87 from $0.58 and Q4 adjusted EBITDA slipped 3.1% to $163.0 million.
The company achieved $105 million of run-rate cost savings a year ahead of plan, raised its target 50% to $150 million by end of fiscal 2027, and cut leverage to 1.2x from 1.7x, but FY adjusted free cash flow of $279.3 million came in below guidance on elevated inventories and resin costs.
Management guided fiscal 2027 only at the low end -- Adjusted EBITDA of $645 million and adjusted FCF of $290 million -- citing a multi-year industrial contraction with no demand inflection identified.

Greif to Exit CRB Business, Close Sweetwater Paperboard Mill
Greif will exit the coated recycled paperboard market by closing its Sweetwater paperboard mill in Austell, Georgia, with operations expected to cease by the end of 2026.
Roughly 90 employees will be affected, and the closure removes approximately 120,000 tons of annual production capacity across CRB, URB, and gypsum paper grades. Greif says the mill's cost position and limited integration within its network prevented a sustainable competitive position.
URB customers will be transitioned to Greif's broader North American URB mill network, and management framed the move as concentrating capital on businesses with leading market positions.
The release quantifies no closure charges, severance costs, or expected savings, so the financial impact remains an open question for investors.
