The short version

Trade Ideas has been building scanners since 2002, per its site, and it shows in the depth: more than 500 alerts and filters, a Formula Editor, Multi-Strategy windows and, on Premium, Holly AI's daily signals, the OddsMaker backtester and auto trading.

Signal8 is narrower on alert conditions and broader on what sits behind a ticker. Its scanner can filter on things read from SEC filings: dilution risk, cash runway, ATM offerings, going concern language and delisting notices. Click a row and the same company's dilution snapshot, filings and insider trades are one page away.

If your edge is building and testing alert logic, Trade Ideas goes further. If you want to know whether a gapper has a shelf or an ATM sitting over it before you look at the chart, that is what Signal8 is built around.

How Trade Ideas works

Both plans include the Channel Bar's one-click scans, custom scans and Top Lists, real-time streaming alerts on every trade, a Formula Editor, and an AI Assistant that "describes a scan in plain English" and builds the window. You also get Stock Races, Multi-Strategy windows, up to 10 charts, TI Wave, price alerts, paper trading and in-app trading.

TI Premium adds Holly AI's daily signals, suggested stops and re-entry points, Smart Risk Levels on every signal, the OddsMaker backtester ("backtest any alert into a trading system") and auto trading.

Prices as of 2026-11-02: Standard is $127 billed monthly or $1,068 a year, and Premium is $254 monthly or $2,136 a year. A free account opens the Web Dashboard with just an email, for a limited time.

How Signal8 works

The scanner shows premarket, intraday and after-hours movers on one board, with presets that include Top Movers, Gap Up, Low Float, Squeeze, High Dilution, Catalyst, Earnings, Halted, Delist Watch and Distress. Logged out it runs five minutes behind; a free account makes it real time.

Pro ($59 a month, or $588 a year, as of 2026-11-02) adds custom filters on price, change, RVOL, volume, float and market cap, plus the filing-based filters listed above. Radar fires premarket alerts from 5am ET when a stock meets its rules; Pro sees them live with tickers, and previous sessions are free to browse. The Terminal puts premarket volume, RVOL, VWAP and float beside flags for cash runway, ATM selling and warrant overhang. The API and MCP server are included.

Where Signal8 is weaker

  • Far fewer alert conditions. Trade Ideas lists more than 500 alerts and filters and lets you write formulas. Signal8's filter set is short by comparison and has no formula editor.
  • No backtesting, paper trading or auto trading. Trade Ideas includes paper trading on both plans and OddsMaker and auto trading on Premium. Signal8 offers none of them.
  • No AI trade signals. Radar alerts mean a stock met a rule at that moment; they come with no suggested stops or entries, unlike Holly AI.
  • No desktop app and no multi-window layout like Trade Ideas' Multi-Strategy windows.

Where Trade Ideas is weaker

  • No filing-based filters listed. Its pricing page lists no dilution, cash runway or SEC filing filters as of 2026-11-02.
  • Higher entry price. TI Standard is $127 a month against $59 for Signal8 Pro, billed monthly.
  • No API listed on its pricing page.

When each one fits

Trade Ideas fits if you design your own scans and want to backtest them, if you want Holly AI's daily signals, or if you want paper or auto trading from the same tool.

Signal8 fits if your shortlist is small caps where an offering can land at any time, and you want dilution, cash runway and filing flags on the same board as gap and float, at a lower monthly price.

If dilution terms are new, the Academy guides what is dilution and cash runway are a quick start, and how Radar works explains what an alert does and does not mean.

FAQ

How much does Trade Ideas cost compared with Signal8?

As of 2026-11-02, TI Standard is $127 a month billed monthly or $1,068 a year, and TI Premium is $254 a month or $2,136 a year. Signal8 Pro is $59 a month or $588 a year, and it is Signal8's only paid plan. Signal8 also has a free account with real-time scanner presets after sign-in.

Does Signal8 have something like Holly AI?

Not in the same form. Holly AI, on TI Premium, gives daily signals with suggested stops and re-entry points. Signal8's Radar fires an alert when a stock meets one of its premarket rules and then tracks the move from that price. It suggests no stops or entries, and an alert is information, not a recommendation.

Can Signal8 backtest a scan?

No. Signal8 does not offer backtesting, paper trading or auto trading. Trade Ideas lists the OddsMaker backtester and auto trading on its Premium plan and paper trading on both plans, as of 2026-11-02.

Can Trade Ideas filter on dilution or cash runway?

Its pricing page does not list dilution, cash runway or SEC filing filters as of 2026-11-02. It lists more than 500 alerts and filters overall, so check its alert and filter list for anything specific. Signal8 Pro's scanner filters on dilution risk, cash runway, ATMs, going concern and delisting notices.

Is there a free version of either?

Trade Ideas offers a free account that opens its Web Dashboard with live access for a limited time. Signal8's free account keeps the scanner presets in real time after you sign in, with custom and filing-based filters on Pro.
