The short version
These two answer the same morning question from opposite ends. Trade Ideas starts from price and volume: it streams alerts as stocks meet the conditions you set, and its Premium plan adds Holly AI's daily signals and a backtester. Benzinga Pro starts from the headline: a real-time newsfeed and audio squawk, with movers, a calendar and, on its top plan, a real-time scanner.
On price they overlap less than it looks. Benzinga's $37 Basic plan does not list the scanner, which is on the $197 Essential plan. Trade Ideas starts at $127 a month with scanning included.
How Trade Ideas works
Both Trade Ideas plans include ready-made scans from the Channel Bar, custom scans and Top Lists, real-time streaming alerts, more than 500 alerts and filters, a Formula Editor, an AI Assistant that builds a scan from plain English, up to 10 charts, paper trading and in-app trading. It runs as a Windows app or a Web Dashboard.
TI Premium adds Holly AI's daily signals with suggested stops and re-entry points, the OddsMaker backtester ("backtest any alert into a trading system"), and auto trading. Prices as of 2026-11-02: Standard $127 a month or $1,068 a year; Premium $254 a month or $2,136 a year.
How Benzinga Pro works
Benzinga Pro is sold on its newsfeed: a real-time feed from more than 1,000 sources, per its pricing page. The tiers, billed monthly as of 2026-11-02:
- Free, $0: 15-minute delayed Nasdaq Basic quotes, the BZ Wire newsfeed with search but no filters, a watchlist, current-session movers, a stock details tool and charts, per Benzinga's help center. The pricing page heads the Basic plan "Every Free Feature Plus".
- Basic, $37: real-time Nasdaq Basic quotes, the full newsfeed without advanced filtering, chat, movers and watchlist alerts.
- Streamlined, $147: an advanced newsfeed you can filter by price, volume and float, plus equity audio squawk.
- Essential, $197: the Real-Time Scanner, Signals, Insiders, a market events calendar and Benzinga AI.
Annual billing lowers the paid plans to $30.58, $124.75 and $166.42 a month. High Beta Squawk is a $99 a month add-on, and there is a 14-day free trial of the paid plans.
Where Signal8 fits
Signal8 is a third option, and we make it. Its scanner runs premarket, intraday and after hours on one board, with presets such as Gap Up, Low Float, Squeeze, High Dilution, Catalyst, Halted and Delist Watch. Logged out the board is delayed five minutes; a free account makes it real time. Pro adds custom filters on price, change, RVOL, volume, float and market cap, and filing-based filters: dilution risk, cash runway, ATMs, going concern and delisting notices.
On the news side, Signal8 has news and press release feeds, and Pro adds an AI read of every 8-K, 10-Q, 6-K and press release with a stance, red flags and key figures. Radar sends premarket alerts from 5am ET on Pro.
Where Signal8 is weaker
- No backtester or auto trading. Trade Ideas Premium lists OddsMaker and auto trading; Signal8 offers neither.
- No audio squawk. Benzinga Pro's squawk reads headlines aloud; Signal8 has nothing similar.
- Fewer alert conditions. Trade Ideas lists more than 500 alerts and filters. Signal8's scanner filters are a shorter list, focused on float, volume and filing data.
- No desktop app. Trade Ideas has a Windows app; Signal8 runs in the browser and its mobile app.
When each one fits
Trade Ideas fits if you build your own scans, want hundreds of alert conditions, or want to backtest an alert before trading it.
Benzinga Pro fits if you trade the headline, want audio squawk, or want news filtered by price, volume and float.
Signal8 fits if you want a scanner that also shows dilution, cash runway and filing flags next to each gapper, at $59 a month.

FAQ
Is Trade Ideas or Benzinga Pro cheaper?
As of 2026-11-02 Benzinga Pro starts lower. It has a free plan with delayed quotes and its BZ Wire newsfeed, and its cheapest paid plan is Basic at $37 a month, but neither lists the scanner. Its Real-Time Scanner is on Essential at $197 a month. Trade Ideas starts at $127 a month for TI Standard, which includes scanning, and Premium is $254 a month. Both are cheaper per month on annual billing.
Which Benzinga Pro plan has the scanner?
Benzinga's pricing page lists the Real-Time Scanner under Essential, its top plan, at $197 a month billed monthly or $166.42 a month billed yearly as of 2026-11-02. Streamlined, at $147, adds a newsfeed you can filter by price, volume and float, but the scanner is not listed on it.
Does Trade Ideas have a free trial?
Its pricing page says a free account opens the Web Dashboard with just an email and no card, with live access for a limited time. Both paid plans can be paid monthly and cancelled anytime, per the same page. Benzinga Pro lists a 14-day free trial of its paid plans and also has a free plan with 15-minute delayed quotes, its BZ Wire newsfeed, a watchlist and current-session movers.
Can a scanner show dilution or SEC filing risk?
Neither Trade Ideas nor Benzinga Pro lists filing-based scanner filters on its pricing page as of 2026-11-02. Signal8 Pro's scanner filters on dilution risk, cash runway, ATM programs, going concern language and delisting notices, which are read from each company's SEC filings.
What is RVOL on a premarket scanner?
Relative volume compares a stock's volume so far with its usual volume for the same point in the session. A reading of 5 means five times the normal amount. All three scanners here show some form of it; the Academy's premarket RVOL guide explains how the baseline is built.
