The short version
A premarket scanner answers one question before the open: which stocks are moving on unusual volume, and why. The tools below answer it from different ends. Some stream every new high as it prints; some rank a list of gappers you refresh; some start from the headline.
Three things separate them more than the feature lists suggest:
- Which plan carries the scanner. On several of these tools the entry price does not include it.
- When premarket coverage starts. Most list 4:00 a.m. ET; some do not say on their pricing page.
- What sits next to the gap. Price and RVOL are on every board. News, halts and SEC-filing context are not.
Below are seven tools in alphabetical order, with what each charges as of 2026-11-02 and what its own site says about premarket. This page also answers the common "Scanz vs Trade Ideas" and "MOMO Pro vs Trade Ideas" questions in the FAQ. For float definitions specifically, see our low-float scanner roundup, which this page does not repeat.

The scanners, A to Z
Benzinga Pro
Best fora newsfeed with a scanner on its top plan
- Essential $197/mo
- Basic from $37/mo without the scanner
Benzinga Pro is sold on its newsfeed, with audio squawk from the Streamlined plan up. The Real-Time Scanner is listed only under Essential, at $197 a month billed monthly or $166.42 a month billed yearly, as of 2026-11-02. Basic, at $37 a month, adds real-time Nasdaq Basic quotes and the full newsfeed but not the scanner. Streamlined, at $147, adds a newsfeed you can filter by price, volume and float. There is a 14-day free trial. Its pricing page does not state premarket hours. The full plan breakdown is in Trade Ideas vs Benzinga Pro.
Finviz
Best fora low-cost screener with 4 AM premarket data
- Free (delayed)
- Elite $39.50/mo or $299.50/yr
Finviz's free screener is delayed and refreshes every 3 minutes. Elite is real-time with a 10-second refresh, and its page lists "premarket data from 4 AM until 9:30 AM" and aftermarket data from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Elite also adds unlimited screener alerts that fire when new stocks match your filters. It costs $39.50 a month or $299.50 a year as of 2026-11-02, with refunds on written request during the first 30 days.
MOMO Pro
Best forhigh-of-day streams from 4am ET at a low price
- Pro $27, Pro+ $47, Ultra $67 per month
MOMO Pro, from Mometic, runs in a browser or as an installable web app and lists "Full Trading Hours (4am–8pm ET)" on every plan. The $27 Pro plan centres on a real-time high/low scanner that streams new highs and lows, with unlimited high/low alerts, a halt and resume bar and real-time news. Pro+, at $47, adds the Gap Scanner, a relative-volume scanner, an 18+ parameter screen builder and advanced alerts. Ultra, at $67, adds its Aura AI tools and keyword news triggers. Yearly prices are $225, $395 and $560, as of 2026-11-02. Paid plans have a seven-day trial that needs a payment method.
Scanz
Best fordata, news and SEC-filing scans side by side
- $89, $199 or $999 per month
Scanz's pricing FAQ says it "includes premarket and after-hours scanning across the full feature set", with 65+ scan filters and real-time data and news on all plans. Each plan covers Nasdaq, NYSE, AMEX and OTC, and saves data, signal, news and SEC Filing scans. Starter, at $89 a month, runs one scan at a time. Pro, at $199, runs unlimited scans at once and adds unlimited alerts. Ultra is $999 a month through sales. Prices are as of 2026-11-02, with a 7-day trial on Starter and Pro that needs a card.
Signal8
We make thisBest forfiling and dilution flags next to each gapper
- Free account
- Pro $59/mo or $588/yr
Signal8 makes this one. Its scanner runs premarket from 4:00 to 9:30am ET, ranking each stock by its gap from the previous close, then switches to the regular session and after hours on its own. Logged out the board is delayed 5 minutes; a free account makes the presets real time. Presets include Gap Up, Momentum, Volume No Move, Low Float, Squeeze, High Dilution, Catalyst, Halted and Delist Watch.
Signal8 Pro, at $59 a month or $588 a year, adds custom filters on price, change, RVOL, volume, float and market cap, and filters read from SEC filings: dilution risk, cash runway, ATMs, going concern and delisting notices. A saved scan alerts with a sound while the scanner is open. Radar is a separate board that fires premarket alerts from 5am ET when a stock meets its rules; today's alerts are live on Pro and not shown without it. Past sessions are free to view.
Trade Ideas
Best fordeep custom scans, streaming alerts and backtesting
- $127/mo or $1,068/yr
- Premium $254/mo
Trade Ideas' premarket page says the Gap (%) filter "includes premarket gappers", that Top Lists update every 15 seconds, and that Pre-market Highs and Pre-market Lows streaming alerts fire each time a stock sets a new premarket extreme. Top Lists run in the Web Dashboard; the streaming alerts run in TI Pro, its Windows desktop app. TI Standard is $127 a month or $1,068 a year and includes Channel Bar scans, Top Lists, real-time streaming alerts, a Formula Editor and an AI Assistant. TI Premium, at $254 a month or $2,136 a year, adds Holly AI signals, OddsMaker backtesting and auto trading, as of 2026-11-02.
TradingView
Best forpremarket columns for traders who chart there
- Free Basic
- Essential from $12.95/mo billed yearly
TradingView's help center lists extended-hours filters and columns in its stock screener, plus an Extended Hours tab, with the data available only during an extended session. It publishes its Pre-market Gap % formula: the premarket open minus the previous regular-session close, divided by that close. The Basic plan is free. Paid plans run from $12.95 a month (Essential) to $199.95 a month (Ultimate), billed annually, as of 2026-11-02, and its pricing page says real-time data for exchanges such as NASDAQ and NYSE is added separately on a paid plan.
Where Signal8 is weaker
- No streaming alert engine of the Trade Ideas or MOMO kind. Signal8's saved scans alert only while the scanner is open in your browser; Trade Ideas and MOMO list streaming alerts, and Scanz Pro lists unlimited alerts.
- No backtesting or auto trading. Trade Ideas Premium lists both. Signal8 offers neither.
- Fewer scan conditions. Trade Ideas, Scanz and MOMO Pro+ let you build scans from many more parameters. Signal8's custom filters are a shorter list focused on movement, float, volume and filing data.
- No audio squawk or desktop app. Benzinga Pro has squawk; Trade Ideas has a Windows app. Signal8 runs in the browser and its mobile app.
- Radar's live board needs Pro. Without Pro, today's alerts are not shown; past sessions are free in full.
How to read a premarket board
Whatever tool you use, three habits help:
- Check the gap's base. A gap is measured from the previous regular-session close. Signal8 and TradingView both document that basis; ask any tool you use which close it uses.
- Read RVOL against the same time of day. Premarket volume is thin, so a full-day average makes every early mover look quiet. Premarket RVOL explains the calculation.
- Look for the halt and the filing. A stock gapping on an offering, a reverse split or a pending halt moves for a different reason than one gapping on earnings. Trading halts explained covers the codes, and the premarket scanner guide walks through Signal8's columns.
FAQ
Scanz vs Trade Ideas: what is the difference?
Both are scan-first tools with real-time data. As of 2026-11-02 Scanz starts at $89 a month for one scan at a time, and $199 for unlimited simultaneous scans and alerts; it adds news and SEC Filing scans on every plan. Trade Ideas starts at $127 a month with streaming alerts and Top Lists, and its $254 Premium plan adds Holly AI signals and OddsMaker backtesting. Trade Ideas' streaming alerts run in its Windows app; Scanz lists web, mobile and, on Pro, desktop.
MOMO Pro vs Trade Ideas: which costs less?
MOMO Pro costs less on paper. As of 2026-11-02 its plans are $27, $47 and $67 a month, or $225, $395 and $560 a year, and its Gap Scanner is on the $47 Pro+ plan. Trade Ideas is $127 a month for Standard and $254 for Premium. They are built differently: MOMO centres on a stream of new highs and lows in the browser, while Trade Ideas offers custom scans, Top Lists, streaming alerts and, on Premium, backtesting.
What time do premarket scanners start?
US premarket trading runs from 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET. MOMO Pro and Finviz Elite both state 4 AM on their sites, and Signal8's scanner switches into premarket at 4:00 a.m. ET. Trade Ideas' premarket page says its filters work as soon as premarket trading starts showing up, and adds that most traders use the list in the last hour before 9:30. Early volume is thin, so the first hour of any board is sparse.
Is there a free premarket scanner?
Yes, with limits. TradingView's free Basic plan includes the stock screener with its extended-hours columns. Finviz's free screener is delayed and refreshes every 3 minutes; its 4 AM premarket data is listed under Elite. Signal8's scanner is free and real time after sign-in, with custom and filing-based filters on Pro. Trade Ideas, Scanz and MOMO Pro offer trials rather than a free plan, as of 2026-11-02.
