The short version
The Signal8 Terminal is a single-screen, multi-panel workspace for following one symbol at a time. Where a company page spreads research across tabs, the Terminal puts the chart, a stat strip, key price levels, your watchlist, a research rail and a trading dock on one screen.
You can open it with any symbol already loaded, for example open AAPL in the Terminal. The page itself opens for anyone, signed in or not. Most of the data panes are part of Signal8 Pro; a pane you cannot access shows a blurred preview with a Log in / Sign Up button if you are signed out, or an upgrade button if you are signed in on the free plan.
Loading and sharing a symbol
The Terminal reads a symbol parameter from its address. A link that carries a symbol opens with that symbol loaded, and as you switch symbols the address updates so you can copy it and share exactly what you are looking at. Switching symbols does not add entries to your browser's Back history.
To change symbol, use the search box in the header (placeholder "Search companies…"). It keeps a Recent list. Press Ctrl-K (Cmd-K on a Mac) from anywhere on the page to jump to the search box, then use the arrow keys, Enter and Esc to pick a result. That is the only global keyboard shortcut.
A symbol must look like a ticker: a letter followed by up to nine letters, digits, dots or hyphens. Anything else in the address is ignored and the Terminal falls back to your saved workspace.
The layout, top to bottom
Header band
The brand, a Back to Signal8 link, the search box and a session clock. When enabled, a market-regime chip also appears here.
Identity line and stat strip
The second band names the symbol: ticker, company name, last price, change and RVOL, which is relative volume, today's volume compared with a typical day. Next to it, the stat strip (Pro) shows:
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Last Close | Previous regular-session close |
| AH Close | After-hours close |
| Day Range | Today's low to high |
| VWAP | Volume-weighted average price for the session |
| Mkt Cap | Market capitalization |
| Float | Tradeable shares, see public float |
| $Vol | Dollar volume traded |
| Spr | Bid-ask spread |
Key Levels strip
The third band (Pro) marks price levels on three horizons. Its legend reads "Structure from months of history", "Nearest the current price" and "Today's shelves, reset each session". These are levels where price has traded heavily or turned before; they describe history, not where the price is headed.
Chart
A TradingView chart with toolbar toggles for overlaying the key levels and company events on the price.
The rails
Watchlist rail
On the left, a Watchlist list (Pro) with Symbol, Last and Chg columns and an Add symbol to watchlist button. Clicking a row loads that symbol into the whole workspace.
Right rail tabs
The right rail has six tabs, each gated separately:
- Summary. A Today list of the day's primary sources, each badged PR, SEC or FORM4 and timestamped in Eastern Time, followed by a "What's happening" block and the generated summary sections.
- Structure. Float, Rotation (volume divided by float, as in the example above) and Days to cover, the short-interest figure.
- Dilution. A compact version of the company page's dilution view, with rows for Overall, Offering ability, Overhead supply, Historical, Cash need, Pressure score, Dilutive supply, Cash runway, O/S growth and Financings over 12 months. It is hidden for companies outside the dilution coverage scope. See the Dilution Pressure Score for how to read it.
- Press Releases. The company's recent press releases.
- SEC Filings. The company's recent filings.
- Holders. Institutional and insider ownership.
The bottom dock
The dock along the bottom holds trading-activity panes:
- Live Trades (Pro): prints as they happen.
- Order Book (Pro): this pane exists, but depth-of-book replay is switched off, so expect it to be empty.
- Off-Exchange Split (Pro): shown when enabled, splitting volume between exchanges and off-exchange venues.
- Positions: holdings from a linked brokerage account. Brokerage linking is not generally available, so most readers will not see data here.
Panes can be resized, and the sizes are remembered. The dock and the right rail both collapse (Expand dock, Expand right rail bring them back). If you hide every dock pane, the dock disappears.
The Terminal on a phone
On narrow screens the panels do not fit side by side, so the Terminal shows a view switcher with Chart, Watchlist, Company and Trades. Each view is one of the desktop panels at full width.
What is free and what is Pro
Opening the Terminal and searching for symbols is open to everyone. The data panes (stat strip, key levels, watchlist rail, the Summary, Structure, Press Releases, SEC Filings and Holders tabs, and the trades and order book panes) are part of Signal8 Pro, which is $59 a month or $588 a year. The upgrade button inside a locked pane shows the annual plan's monthly equivalent. The Dilution tab uses the same access rules as the Dilution tab on the company page.
How to get started on Signal8
- Open AAPL in the Terminal, or replace the ticker with any symbol you follow.
- From a company page, use the Open on Terminal button at the right end of the tab row when it is shown.
- Compare plans on the Pro page.
FAQ
How do I share a Terminal view with someone?
Copy the address from your browser. It carries the current symbol in a symbol parameter, so whoever opens it sees the Terminal with that symbol loaded. They will see the panes their own account can access, so a free-plan user opening a Pro user's link sees blurred previews where the Pro panes are.
Do I need Signal8 Pro to use the Terminal?
You can open the Terminal and search without an account. Most data panes, including the stat strip, key levels, watchlist and research rail tabs, are part of Signal8 Pro. Locked panes show a blurred preview with a button to sign in or upgrade, so you can see the layout before deciding.
Why is the Order Book pane empty?
The Order Book pane is part of the layout, but the depth-of-book replay that would fill it is switched off on the public site. Live Trades, which shows individual prints, is the pane to use for trade-by-trade activity.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for symbol search?
Yes. Press Ctrl-K, or Cmd-K on a Mac, to focus the search box from anywhere on the page, as long as you are not already typing in another field. Use the up and down arrows to move through results, Enter to load one and Esc to close the list.
Terms in this guide
- Relative volume (RVOL)
- Today's trading volume divided by the stock's typical volume for the same period, so a reading of 3.0 means three times the usual activity.
- VWAP discount
- The percentage below a volume-weighted average price at which an investor buys or converts into shares under a financing agreement, such as 97% of VWAP or 80% of the lowest VWAP.
- Public float
- The shares of a company held by investors other than its officers, directors and controlling holders, or their market value; the SEC uses the dollar figure for form eligibility.
- Days to cover
- Short interest divided by average daily trading volume; a rough estimate of how many days of normal trading it would take for all short sellers to buy back their shares.
